Today, there are almost 75 million women in the US labor force.
If you’re one of them, then you’re one of the many women who want to excel at your career and conquer your professional goals! But do you look up to your idols and wonder, how do I become as successful as she is?
The road to success isn’t an uphill path. You’ll endure many rollercoasters along the way. Especially for women; even in 2019, women still face a myriad of issues, from sexual harassment to even pregnancy discrimination.
But you can conquer these hardships and experience success in life. Follow these steps and become a successful woman.
Believe in Yourself
This may sound cliché but it’s an essential first step in your path to success. If you don’t believe in yourself, then no one else will.
But don’t be ashamed if you’re not confident. Instead, stay productive and try and focus on your career. Write down all of your goals, both long-term and short-term. Check them off after you accomplish them.
You should also befriend those you admire or those you want to work with. You can also find a mentor who will give you advice along the way.
While this doesn’t have to do with your career, be sure you eat healthily and exercise. You’ll feel great and have the energy to put in extra hours at work.
Never expect perfection. While you should strive to produce the best work ever, understand you will make mistakes. Be comfortable messing up and always learn something from your mistakes.
Just because you should never expect perfection doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work hard. Perseverance is the key to accomplishing your career goals. Not only will others notice your skills but your work will start speaking for itself.
The first step of working hard is staying organized. Create a weekly schedule of your assignments and set deadlines (if no one already set them for you). You can even break up your assignments into smaller tasks to streamline the process.
From here, working hard is all about you. Always try and find motivation and stay focused on your bad days. Take control of your career and your role in your company.
But working hard doesn’t mean slaving over your job and working overtime. Remember to take breaks — pencil them in if you have to. And use your PTO wisely, every successful woman deserves a vacation!
Don’t be afraid to take risks. Maybe your boss has a difficult job they want you to do or maybe you have a job interview planned with your dream job. You may feel nervous but taking that risk can lead to rewards.
Expand Your Education and Harness Your Skills
Never feel ashamed to learn new skills. Employers will appreciate your extensive knowledge and you can lend a helping hand to other teams at your job.
You shouldn’t forget the soft skills, such as great communication and a good listener. These will come in handy when working in a group or talking to your manager.
